I could be wrong about who this is — I’m inferring from Youtube that the same actor in the Freshly commercial is the one in the shirtless video and that his name is Edward Michael. Please send any corrections or confirmation my way.

The first time I ever saw Thomas Roberts, I couldn’t believe my eyes.
I really despise NBC for letting him go. I was so excited the night he covered for Brian Williams, becoming the first openly gay man to do the national evening news.

I don’t know why exactly, but commercials are getting harder to find on Youtube. Click through to ispot (which wordpress won’t let me embed) to view this commercial about a guy who is going to back into and kill a goldfish until some chick grabs his hot ass to stop him.
Make no mistake, I loathe MTV. I remember when they used to be creative and interesting, and above all musical. Now it’s a cultural trash heap. But dammit, when I saw this guy take off his shirt and lather his (???) with beer, everything inside me exploded and died.
The idea of a rich sexy playboy is, well, sexy. And in fact Augie Busch (IV) was rumored to be a hard partier — which is fun to a point:
Despite his corporate role, Busch maintained a reputation as a party boy. He hosted bacchanals at his mansion, which had beer taps in the kitchen and a giant hot tub, according to several people who have been there. On business trips, he was often accompanied by young women. When asked about this by BusinessWeek in 2002, he replied that his house was much like those of other executives and that he paid the expenses of any guests who traveled with him. As Benj Steinman, the publisher of Beverage Business Insights, an industry newsletter, puts it: “August was deeply committed to the business but was also out playing a lot.”
But this guy has had a pretty squalid life according to the rest of this article at NBC News. Just one excerpt:
As a student at the University of Arizona, he crashed his Corvette, killing a 22-year-old bartender named Michele Frederick who was in the passenger seat. His father hired the top lawyers in St. Louis and Tucson, as well as a team of private investigators and experts, to extricate him. Police had arrived at August IV’s townhouse hours after the accident and found him in bed, dazed and covered in dried blood. According to police interviews cited in “Under the Influence,” Busch first told the police that he and Frederick had been at Dirtbag’s, a bar popular with students, and had been drinking. Soon after that, though, he claimed amnesia and wouldn’t answer further questions. After an eight-month investigation, the authorities declined to press charges.
You would think the rest of the family would treat him as a cautionary example, but I guess not. And this is clearly MTV’s move, to cast incredibly well built men on shows that no self-respecting women or gay men would otherwise watch. MTV Reality has a clip from Floribama shore of the cast cursing and bickering in a hotel room while one of the cast members does bicep curls in the middle of the room wearing nothing but a pair of shorts. I thought he was just average looking back then, but wow, has he aged nicely. He is a true hunk now.
